From despair to hope

Untold is a ministry that provides life-saving care, supportive community, job training and the hope of Christ to people in East Africa who live with HIV/AIDS. Often stigmatized by their family and community, these people live like modern-day lepers being shunned in every sector of their world. Untold enters this brokenness and, through the power of God, redeems it by offering opportunities for transformation.  

The ten participants on our recent impact trip got to see this ministry up close. We heard stories from men and women who were once lost in despair say things like, "Because of Untold, I have a community. Because of Untold, I have income. Because of Untold, I can live." One woman shared through tears how everyday she endured the taunts of neighbors as she walked by call her a "walking corpse." "But now," she said, "I am not alone. I have a new family. I have skills. I have hope. And when I hear them say such things, I just use it as a reminder to praise God for all that He has done for me."

At an African worship service where Pastor Jack preached and every team member was invited to dance as we passed out Bibles to Untold participants--a local pastor offered an invitation where 55 people surrendered their lives to Christ! A number of them were Muslim and would need to leave their new Bibles at the church and return to study them later so that their families would not cast them out. The trip was capped off with a day and a half spent on the Serengeti beholding the Lord's marvelous creation.
